“What are we allowed to take home with us from a hotel room?” This is something that many of us ask ourselves.

There are certain complimentary items provided for us to enjoy, and take home if we wish, such as toiletries and stationery. But what about those soft, comfy slippers?

The short answer is:

“Absolutely!”

Throw-away culture

Slippers are one of the aspects of the leisure experience that cannot be re-used by the hotel or spa.

Once they have been used, even though they can be laundered, for hygiene reasons, it would not be appropriate or desirable for other guests to then use them.

For this reason, hotel and spa slippers tend to be thrown away once they have been used. Unfortunately, slipper disposal is a significant aspect of the waste generated by the hotel industry.

Therefore, from an environmental perspective, it’s far preferable for guests to take their slippers home and make the most of them.

A treat for the feet

Good quality hotel slippers are soft, comfortable and feel luxurious to wear.

Taking them home to use yourself is the perfect way to give them life after the hotel room, but there are other ways that they be used and enjoyed too.

Guestroom luxury

Hotel slippers are the perfect addition to a guestroom – what a nice touch for overnight visitors to slip into some soft, cosy comfort. If they happen to be branded with a luxury hotel’s logo – even more kudos!

Visitor spares

If you prefer your home to be a shoe-free space, then having some fresh, spare slippers for visitors can be really useful and means they’ll always have warm feet.

Travel companions

By their nature, hotel slippers are light-weight and soft, so they’re very easy to carry. Perfect to take along for overnight stays with friends and family, or if you’re travelling further afield to a villa, holiday home or B&B.

Perfect presents

Even if you haven’t worn the slippers during your stay at the hotel, you can still take them home with you – and there’s sure to be someone in your life who would appreciate a little cosy memento of your holiday!

Cleaning hotel slippers

Hotel slippers can’t usually be machine washed because they contain materials that can break down and cause them to lose their shape. If you need to ‘spot clean’ hotel slippers, this can be done carefully using a mild detergent.

Using a clean, soft cloth, some cool water, and your detergent, gently blot the area. Once cleaned, repeat with plain water to rinse away the detergent. Blot away excess water with a dry towel and air dry.

Turning the tide on slipper disposal

There’s no denying that the waste caused by the disposal of hotel slippers is a significant concern. That’s why we’re taking this issue seriously and we’re working hard to make things better.

Biodegradable hotel slippers

We offer hotels and spas the option of purchasing fully biodegradable slippers for their guests.

They are made with coir soles. Coir is a natural fibre extracted from the husk of the coconut.

These slippers don’t compromise on comfort as they have an extra layer of padding in the uppers and the sole – all elements are completely biodegradable.

Slipper recycling pioneers

We are currently working on a project to enable unused hotel slippers to be recycled in an eco-friendly way.
